Battle Through the Heavens – TV Series Animation Production

This project showcases my work as Executive Director on the 3D animated TV series Battle Through the Heavens at Motion Magic Digital Entertainment in Shanghai.The animated series has a total of 52 episodes. As the executive director, I was fully responsible for the production of 12 of them in more than a year.

My responsibilities covered multiple stages of the production pipeline, including:

– Script Revision & Planning: After analyzing the original novel, I revised the scripts to ensure they could be feasibly adapted for 3D animation, taking into account asset limitations and per-episode production costs.
– Storyboarding & Visual Direction: I designed initial storyboards to establish story rhythm, camera pacing, and character performance. I supervised revisions to ensure each sequence matched both narrative and animation requirements.
– Preproduction Supervision: I helped finalize character and environment designs in early production.
– Motion Capture Direction: I directed motion capture performances and reviewed captured data for quality and narrative clarity.
– Animation Supervision & Editing: During layout and animation phases, I determined final shot durations and adjusted them according to story needs and director feedback. I also provided input on action choreography, visual FX references, and fight sequences.
– Final Editing & FX Approval: I oversaw final video editing, supervised VFX integration, and approved the final renders for broadcast.
